The ‘Sahara’ series represents a fascinating chapter in 1960s Italian design. Designed by the master Aldo Londi, the long-standing Creative Director of Bitossi Ceramiche, this line was produced in a joint venture with the nearby Ceramiche Paoli workshop (therefore the ‘CER PAULI’ mark stamped on the base). The vase combines Bitossi’s famous geometric stencil-engraving technique with a palette of warm colours inspired by the earth and the desert.
This line represents the famous chromatic evolution of the Rimini Blu collection: it retains the same iconic handcrafted geometric stencil-engraving technique, but reinterprets the surfaces with the warm tones of the earth and the desert, alternating bands of rich orange, mustard and green. A Mid-Century Modern collector’s item of great visual impact.
This specific piece is in impeccable, Mint Condition: the ceramic is completely intact, free from chips, cracks or repairs, and the glossy glaze preserves the original vibrancy of the period’s colours.
